Ken Ovrebo, nominee for Hall of Fame
Bio and Nomination information from Ken's nominator:

Ken Ovrebo:  Retired, Director of Bands, Canon City High School

Ken Ovrebo graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota with a Bachelor of Music degree in music education. He earned a Master of Music degree in instrumental conducting from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

He started his teaching career in Eaton, Colorado where he taught instrumental music (grades 5-12) for seven years. The rest of his teaching career was in Canon City, Colorado where he was the high school band director.  Ken’s high school band was always known for its distinctive, warm, rich sound.

For many years, Ken was the chairman of bands for the Canon City Music and Blossom Festival.  Also, Ken served as the host for the Colorado Bandmasters Association Southern Regional State Qualifying Marching Band Festival for many years.

Since retiring in 2005, Ken has enjoyed helping the Colorado Bandmasters Association with various events, the regional and state concert band festivals as well as the state marching band festival.  He has taught low brass sectionals for the bands at Cheyenne Mountain High School for the past five years. He has also served as a judge for CHSAA concert band festivals, CBA regional concert band festivals, solo and ensemble festivals, various marching band field show contests and the Colorado State Fair Parade.

In May of 2009, Ken was appointed to the Executive Secretary position with the Colorado Bandmasters Association. His responsibilities include overseeing all financial transactions, membership records and general operations of the organization.  Through much effort and exhaustive research, Ken was able to totally reorganize CBA finances, implementing proper tax procedures and budget projections.  His efforts in this endeavor are truly significant, especially since he was able to avoid several tax penalties.

Besides Ken’s wonderful teaching career and contributions to the band world, his involvement and accomplishments as Executive Secretary more than qualify him for the CBA Hall of Fame!

CBA HALL OF FAME
Each year the CBA recognizes an outstanding member by inducting them into the Hall of Fame.  While this is often given to a retired member, it is not required that the recipient be retired (currently teaching band directors are eligible).

To nominate someone for consideration, please send a nomination letter (outlining the member's qualifications and why you think they should be inducted into the Hall of Fame) along with a brief Bio to Jack Yonce at:  yonce@cmsd.k12.co.us

Please send nominations and Bios to Jack Yonce before April 1st.  If more than 3 nominations are submitted, an ad hoc committee of board members will review the nominations and choose no more than 3 for the ballot.  In this case, the supporting nominating letter will be of utmost importance!

VOTING FOR HALL OF FAME
A sample ballot will be posted shortly after April 1 (on the website) along with instructions for voting, which will be done electronically.  Deadline to vote is May 1st.

If you have any questions, please contact Jack Yonce.
