Concert Band Goal

The primary goal of the Colorado Bandmasters Association Concert Band Committee is to promote the development and improvement of the concert band as the center of the band program.  The State Concert Band Festival showcases Colorado's outstanding concert bands by allowing them to perform in a superb concert hall, while giving them the opportunity to be critiqued by some of the nation's finest music educators.  To further educational and artistic development, students at CBA Concert Band Festivals participate in clinics and serve as audience members for other groups.

COLORADO BANDMASTERS ASSOCIATION
REGIONAL AND STATE CONCERT BAND FESTIVALS 2011
Information

CBA is again sponsoring Regional Concert Band Festivals, which will be used as qualifying events for the State Concert Band Festival.  All Festivals will include a clinic with an outstanding music educator. Schools wishing to participate in the State Festival must attend one of the Regional events.  Schools wishing to participate in the Regional Festivals only do not have to attend the State Festival.  This year there will be five Regional Festivals, and all will be adjudicated by the same panel of judges.  The top 24 bands will be invited to participate in the State Festival held at Denver University/Lamont School of Music on Monday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 19th.   All Festivals will be for ratings only.  IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK WITH YOUR DISTRICT AND BUILDING ADMINISTRATION REGARDING CSAP CONFLICTS!!!

The dates and locations for the 2011 Regional Festivals are:
Monday, Feb. 28th
Western Regional @ Palisade HS, Palisade

Tuesday, Mar. 1st
Denver Regional #1 @ Grandview HS, Aurora

Wednesday, Mar. 2nd
Northern Regional @ Fossil Ridge HS, Ft. Collins

Thursday, Mar. 3rd
Southern Regional @ Air Academy HS, Colorado Springs

Friday, Mar. 4th
Denver Regional #2 @ Metro State College, Denver

A maximum of 16 bands will perform at each of the Regional Festivals on a first-come basis.    All bands will be required to listen to at least two other band performances throughout the day (those time slots will be assigned close to your performance time whenever possible).  The entry fee for Regionals only is $275, and the application for Regional and State will be a total of $550.  Please circle your choice on the Application Form.  Those not selected for State will be refunded $275.  Applications must be postmarked by Thursday, December 1st.  Choose your preferred site on the Application Form.  Requests will be honored by postmark date.  Please include any special needs you may have for performance time preference.  Cancellations after Jan. 15 will not receive a refund.

If you are selected for State, you must change at least one selection from your Regional repertoire.  Since State will be two days, please indicate on the Application Form which day you would like to perform.  Choices will be granted by postmark of your Regional application.  Time slots for bands will be randomly assigned through a drawing.  If you wish to trade time slots for State, you may do so by contacting the other band director, and then letting Dick Kusk know of the change so that he may correct the schedule.  Be sure that four original judges’ scores, plus your own (TOTAL OF FIVE SCORES) are provided at all Regional and State sites!!!  No copies will be accepted unless accompanied by a Publisher’s letter.

All Band Directors participating in CBA Regional or State Concert Band Festivals must be current CBA members.  This includes the primary director, assistant directors (if they are conducting), and student teachers (special rate for college students).  Contact Ken Ovrebo for membership forms or click on "Membership" at the left.

PLEASE NOTE:  THIS IS NEW!

In an effort to better accommodate 1A-2A schools, CBA is offering the following:
1A-2A schools need pay initially for Regional only ($275).  If they qualify for State by virtue of their performance score, they will be notified.  Wishing to participate, they will then pay the additional $275 and compete as usual at the State Festival.

In addition, at the judges’ discretion, 1A-2A schools can be recommended for State as a result of a quality performance at a 1A-2A performance level.  Those bands selected will pay the additional $275 and appear at State “In Exhibition” for judges’ comments only.

Congratulations to the 2010 CBA State Concert Band Festival participants.  The Festival was held April 26 and 27, 2010 on the campus of CSU - Ft. Collins.
